The Nursery Team
Welcome to Nursery. Miss Sapsed is the teacher and Mrs Francis is the Early Years Practitioner. Miss Sapsed and Mrs Francis are full time in Nursery. We look forward to seeing you every day and please feel free to approach us with questions, concerns or comments. There is always the option of messaging us privately on Class Dojo or ringing the school office on 01472 354601 and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible.
For your information, our qualifications are:
Miss Sapsed- B.A. (Hons) Combined Studies & Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Primary)
Mrs Francis- Level 3 Early Years Practitioner
We both hold a Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid
Miss Sapsed
I have been a teacher for many years and specialise in the development of young children. I particularly enjoy reading stories with the children and trying out different voices for the characters. I also love to support when the children build construction models as they sometimes let me join in! In my spare time, I like to particpate in exercise classes and growing lots of flowers in my garden.
Mrs Francis
I have worked at Littlecoates for seven years across the Early Years, within Day Care, Nursery and Reception Class. I also support in Breakfast Club every morning. I enjoy supporting the children through all areas of learning but messy play and being outside are my favourites, especially if it’s snowing! During my spare time I like to go swimming and taking my dog Lola for a walk.
Class Governor
Our Class Governor is Precious Chiamaka Oha-Nwobodo. She pops in from time to time and keeps in touch to see how we are getting on.
Please bring your Book Bag every day!
Every child will be given a Littlecoates Primary Academy book bag when they start in Nursery.
Once a week your child will choose a book Please bring it every day and place it in the labelled box by the coat pegs.
All of your child's beautiful paintings and drawings will be put in their book bag at home time, as well as important letters, so please check and empty your child's book bag after every session.
Once a week, your child will choose a book to take home to share with you, which will be placed in their book bag. You can help your child develop a love of books and reading by finding a quiet place and time to read the book with them. Bedtime is often ideal. Encourage your child to talk about the illustrations and ask them questions about what they have read. It helps to reread the story and as your child becomes more familiar with characters and story events, they may want to take over by telling the story to you or even making up a new ending,
The Topics and Texts for this Term
Here are the books that Nursery will be reading over the next few weeks. We typically have a 'Book of the Week' and talk about the elements of a book, such as the 'front cover', 'author', 'characters', 'text' and 'pictures' as well as enjoying the story. If you are able to read the story at home, then it always supports learning by re-reading books and once your child is secure with the story events, you can always add a twist by making up a new ending. This will make your little one giggle. as well as letting you check that they are listening!
Sharing books really is key to helping your child develop their attention, listening, communication and vocabulary, as well as being a lovely activity to share together.
Please do not feel that you need to buy the books listed- you may already have similar books on the themes at home or prefer to borrow books from the local library. If those are not available, then remember your child will select a weekly library book to share with you as many times as your little one desires.

Our Weekly Timetable
This is our weekly timetable in Nursery. We have adult-led activities which last an appropriate amount time given the age and development of our children. We cover different aspects of learning on different days, so it is essential that your little one attends every day so that they do miss out and they are able to reach their potential.
Your child has a large proportion of the session to self-select activities inside and outdoors as learning through play is essential for young children, with adults there to support and extend the children's learning while following your child's interests and choices.
What happens every day in our Nursery?
We utilise daily opprtunities to help your child develop their skills and independence. It is essential that they feel part of the Littlecoates community, knowing that they make a valuable contribution. We start at the beginning, by teaching the children how to respect and care for each other and their surroundings.

Physical Education
This year our PE lessons will take place every Thursday morning.
We ask parents to supply a pair of trainers, named and placed in a bag on your child's peg every Thursday.
Please remember to take out earrings on PE days.
Not all children attend the PE session, however all the children have daily access to the outdoor area which offers space to run, build, climb, pedal, balance, roll, skip, dance, imagine and much more!

Share your Child's Experiences and Progress with Us
Throughout school, we use the ClassDojo App to share information with you. We will contact you privately or share information with the Nursery parents/carers.
We love to hear about your child's achievements- maybe they have slept in their own bed all night, tried new food or they have learnt to undo their buttons- please send a message on Class Dojo or send a photo. If your child would like to, they can share their success with the group.

Maths
Underwater Counting
Your child has to count the fish and select the correct number.
Mental Maths Train
This game can be played with children of multiple ages. But in reception, they can choose the plus and subtract train. Once you've chosen this you can either practise addition and subtraction with numbers up to 10 or 20!
Caterpillar Ordering
Your child can either order or sequence numbers up to 10 or 20.
Number Teddy
Your child has to count the correct amount of objects and give them to the bear
Ladybird Spots
You can choose form several options on this game from counting, ordering or matching. On the matching game, your child has to count the spots on the ladybird then match it to the correct number.
Shape Patterns
On this game, your child has to complete the shape pattern.
