The Golden Thread
Together we can make our world just and sustainable
In 2015, the UK Government joined every other country in the world and committed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Goals provide a holistic framework to eradicate poverty, reduce inequalities, combat catastrophic climate change, and protect our natural environment by 2030.
Target 4.7 states that:
‘By 2030, ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including, among others, through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development.’
What kind of a world do we live in?
Running through each aspect of our curriculum at Littlecoates Primary Academy, is a golden thread aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (also known as Global Goals), which encourages the children to consider the world around them and focus on issues of social justice and sustainability.
Through our motto "Learn together, play together and aspire together," we emphasise the importance of togetherness in creating a better world. By integrating global learning throughout our curriculum and engaging in programmes such as the International School Award and Philospohy for Children, we ensure the children are equipped to be active citizens in a world full of challenges and opportunities.
