Activity 1 - Weather Around The World
This activity links to Global Goal 13.
As part of our science topic on seasonal changes and the weather, we have been keeping a weather diary to record our findings and observations.
We created some fabulous writing linked to the weather and how the weather differs around the world.
We then met with our partner class via Google Meet. We were very excited. We had lots of questions. Here are some examples:
- Which lessons do you like at school?
- Does it ever snow in Nigeria?
- Is it ever cold in Nigeria?
- How often does it rain?
- When is it rainy season?
Both of our classes were then set the challenge of recording local weather for the next week. We then met again and compared our data.
Here is an example of a weather diary. We were able to compare the weather between Grimsby and Lagos.
Our Thoughts
One-One - I enjoyed meeting them online so we could find out about their weather.
Terrance - They had lots of hot weather.
Betsy - We could see their classroom and it looked a little bit like ours.
Staff comments
The children in my class were incredibly excited to collaborate with our Nigerian partner school, a feeling particularly strong among our Nigerian students. This project was a fantastic way for them to observe global weather variations, and our Google Meet sessions provided valuable opportunities to add depth beyond the collected data.
It was also rewarding to see the children making their own comparisons between the two schools, noting both the differences in our countries, schools, and weather, and discovering unexpected similarities.
