Pupils are well cared for by staff who have high aspirations for them, our new Ofsted report says.

An inspector visited the school in June and left full of praise for our children, staff, governors and Trust, saying the academy had taken effective action to maintain its good status.

Principal Mr Wilkinson was delighted by the report.

“We know that the children learn in a caring, kind and aspirational environment,” he said.

“But it is reassuring to have the reinforcement and recognition from Ofsted. 

“We were particularly proud of the children when we read the inspector’s findings.

“They work really hard, like the staff, and deserve to earn Ofsted’s praise.”

The inspector said the school “is at the heart of the local community.”

“Pupils are extremely well cared for by staff, who have high aspirations for them,” it says.

“Pupils’ views are well considered. There is a true sense that the school’s vision of ‘togetherness’ is lived out by all.”

Pupils, the inspector noted, “have high levels of respect for staff and their peers”.

“They learn to value the ideas and opinions of others. This helps to establish a calm and productive atmosphere for learning in school. 

“Pupils learn and play well alongside one another.

“Expectations of what pupils can achieve here, both academically and in their wider personal skills, are high. 

“Pupils are well prepared for their next stage of education, regardless of their starting points.”

The school had “carefully designed a curriculum” which reflects pupils’ backgrounds.

“The school makes reading a priority,” says the report and inclusivity was at its heart.

“Pupils who attend the school’s resource provision, ‘The Launchpad’, receive a high standard of care and support. 

“The curriculum is specifically designed to meet pupils’ personal and academic needs.

“The school is rightly proud of its wider personal development offer for pupils. This is exceptional. It extends beyond the pupils attending the school to families within the local community.

“Pupils enjoy school. From the early years, pupils quickly establish a positive view of learning and attending school.”

Leaders had “an accurate understanding” of the school’s strengths. 

“Improvements are based on the right priorities for the pupils. The school continues to be aspirational in the future developments it has identified.”

Leaders were supported well by local governors and Wellspring Academy Trust, who understand and fulfil their statutory responsibilities. 

“Staff are proud to work at the school,” says the report. 

“With support for well-being in place, they are effective in their role in moving the school forwards. 

“Parents are highly complimentary about the school and the support their children receive here.”

Mr Wilkinson thanked the whole school community for their contribution to making the school so special.

“I’d particularly like to thank my hard-working and dedicated staff team for the considerable efforts they put in to ensure these children receive the best possible education.”
